What Can You Submit?
Whether you’re a student, or creative mind, Schoolers Pen accepts a wide range of content to help you express yourself. Choose the category that best fits your voice:
Poetry
Any form—free verse, spoken word, rhymes, narrative poems.
Short Fiction
Original stories with a beginning, middle, and end.
Non-Fiction
Personal essays, memoirs, reflections, true stories, or articles.
Art & Photography
Original drawings, paintings, digital art, or school-related photography.
Reviews & Opinions
Thoughtful reviews of books, school events, youth-related issues, or social topics.
Submission Guidelines
To ensure every submission gets the attention it deserves, we’ve outlined a few important guidelines. Whether you’re submitting poetry, fiction, essays, reviews, or artwork, following these simple instructions will help us review your work faster—and give it the best chance of being published on Schoolers Pen and in our magazine.
General Guidelines
Originality
All submissions must be your own original work. No plagiarism or AI-generated content is allowed.
Age Range
Submissions are open to students between the ages of 5 – 21, currently attending primary, secondary, or tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
Language
All written works must be in English.
One Submission Per Category
You may submit one entry per category (e.g., one poem, one short story, etc.) per submission period.
No Hate or Harm
We do not accept content that promotes hate, violence, discrimination, or inappropriate themes.
Submitting & Formatting Guidelines
Submission Form
Fill out the submission form. Ensure all fields are accurately completed.
File Format
All text submissions must be in .doc or .docx format. Artwork should be in .jpg or .png
File Naming Convention
Name your file using this format- FullName_Title_Category
Example: MuhammadAdanna_TheSilentTree_Poetry.docx
Upload Limit
Only one entry per category per submission period is allowed.
How It Works!
Write & Submit
Submit your entry (essay, poem, artwork, or short story) through our website form or by email at submissions@schoolerspen.com. Please include your school name (if a student), age, and the category of your work.
Get Published
Our reviewers will carefully access submissions, and selected works will be published on the Schoolers Pen website.
Be Featured in the Magazine
Outstanding entries may also be showcased in the Schoolers Pen bi-monthly magazine.
Participate in Contests
Stand a chance to compete in our regular contests where the best works are recognized and rewarded.

Be Original
Send only original work. Avoid plagiarism. If it's published elsewhere, let us know.
Follow Guidelines
Read the submission rules carefully. Stick to the word limits, file formats, and category requirements.
Proofread First
Typos and grammar mistakes can weaken great work. Always proofread before submitting.
Make it Meaningful
Write from the heart. Submissions with depth, emotion, and clarity tend to stand out.
For Visual Arts Submissions
Ensure images are clear, high resolution (at least 1500px wide), and properly framed. Add a short caption or title if possible.

Will I get feedback if my piece isn’t published?
Yes. If your submission isn’t accepted initially, our team may provide feedback to help you improve and invite you to resubmit.
Is there a deadline?
Submissions are open all year round. However, for magazine selection, entries must be submitted before the date announced on our website.
Is it free to submit?
Absolutely. Submitting your work to Schoolers Pen is completely free. No hidden charges or submission fees.
How do I know if I’ve been selected for the magazine?
Writers and artists whose work is selected for the magazine will receive an official email notification. We’ll also announce featured contributors on our website and social media.
