Sonnet for a New Nigeria

By Ernest Chibuike, Accra, Ghana

From ash of trials, a nation shall arise,

Her children bold, with dreams no chain can bind.

The tears of old still glisten in her eyes,

Yet hope now burns within the youthful mind.

The streets once worn with silence, fear, and dust,

Shall hum with voices lifted clear and strong.

A land rebuilt on courage, truth, and trust,

Where justice reigns and none are kept for long.

The farmer’s hand shall bless the fertile field,

The scholar’s pen shall chart a brighter way.

The wounds of greed and strife at last shall yield,

As dawn restores the promise of the day.

O Nigeria, awake, thy time is near—

A future carved from faith, not bound by fear.
